Tom Paine's short collection, Scar Vegas (Harcourt), was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and a Pen/Hemingway Award finalist. Stories in this collection were published in The New Yorker, Harper’s, Playboy, The Boston Review, The New England Review, and Zoetrope, as well as in the award anthologies The O. Henry Awards, the Pushcart Prize (twice), Best New Stories from the South, and American Fiction X: Best Stories from Unpublished Writers. A former journalist based in the Caribbean, he now teaches in the MFA program at the University of New Hampshire.
