Elise Burke

Elise Burke is an MFA candidate at Hollins University’s Jackson Center for Creative Writing. Elise was awarded two Kratz Center for Creative Writing Fellowships in 2011 and 2012 to perform culture and setting studies in the Shenandoah Valley and on Virginia’s Chincoteague Island. The stories born by these grants were compiled in a collection of short fiction entitled Sorry For Crashing Your Party and Possibly Killing Your Horse. Elise was the recipient of the Kratz Center’s 2012 Reese Award, naming her Goucher College's writer of the year. She is a fiction editor with The Baltimore Review. Her stories have either been accepted by or published in magazines such as Gulf Coast, The Atticus Review, Post Road, The Gettysburg Review, Court Green, among others. Her recent publication in Swarm Quarterly was nominated for a 2015 Pushcart Prize.
