His fiction was named a Distinguished Story in The Best American Short Stories 2005, and received Special Mention in Pushcart Prize 2006, 2008 and 2010. His collection, The Women Were Leaving the Men, won the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award for Fiction.
