Joyland co-publisher Emily Schultz's new novel, The Blondes, is out this month in Canada from Doubleday (US date TBA). In the novel Hazel Hayes is a grad student living in New York City when she learns she is pregnant (from an affair with her married professor) at an apocalyptically bad time: random but deadly attacks on passers-by, all by blonde women, are terrorizing New Yorkers. Soon it becomes clear that the attacks are symptoms of a strange illness that is transforming blondes—whether CEOs, flight attendants, students or accountants—into rabid killers. There's a launch party in Toronto happening Tuesday, August 21, 6pm-8pm at Ben McNally Books. Emily is also appearing at the International Festival of Authors in Toronto, Kingston Festival of Authors and the Vancouver International Writers Festival, dates TBA.
She is also rocking Tumblr as of late.
